Costa Rica 2025
Level 1, March 30 – April 11, 2025 lead by Jamie Jenks
Expedition Overview
We tore through mountains, jungles, rivers — and yeah, a few fears too. We rode harder, laughed louder, and came back with stories (and bruises) we’ll never shut up about. Limits got obliterated, bonds got sealed, and we’re still not over it.
Route Highlights
1,022 miles / 1,645 kmDistance covered
8 + 2 optional daysDays riding
Notable Stops
- La Fortuna: Waterfall and volcano hikes and hot springs!
- Monteverde: Ziplining through the cloud forest
- Tapirus Lodge: Trekking through the rainforest with the snakes, spiders and all the other critters there.
- Paquera: Bioluminescence kayaking, listening to the howler monkeys and chilling by the pool
The Ride
- Terrain: Pavement, sand, dirt, gravel and some rocky sections with water crossings
- Weather: The heat, riding at dark, rain, pouring water out of our boots, wearing the soggy boots again the next day
What Stood Out
- Off-Bike Highlights: Sloths, waterfall hike, the views, fireflies, facemasks, trying to cool off in the river that wasn’t cold at all
- Critters Spotted: Snakes, spiders, frogs, tapirs, sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, coatis, crocodiles
The Reality
What made it tough + how it was handled: Flat tire within the first two hours, no showers at the first hotel, second flat in less than 24 hours from our embarkment, cockroaches, almost getting run over in the mud, rocky/washed out roads taking out knees, arm sized grasshoppers jumping onto your dinner table, Annie got rodeo’ed by a telephone line
