General FAQ
- Who is WeRoam Moto for?
WeRoam Moto is for women who already ride and want to take that experience further, beyond paved roads and into challenging adventure. Our riders come from around the world and bring a range of skill levels, but they share a deep desire to explore, connect, and grow through moto expeditions. If you’re looking for a challenging and adventurous ride, you’ll fit right in here.
- I’ve never ridden a bike before, can I come?
Unfortunetly not. WeRoam isn’t designed for complete beginners. Riders need to already know how to operate a motorcycle before applying.
If you’re new to riding, we recommend starting with a local training school and spending time building foundational skills. Once you have some experience and are ready to grow your off-road and adventure riding skills, WeRoam may be a good fit.
- Do I need off-road experience to join?
Some riding experience is required, but you don’t need to be highly experienced off-road. Many riders arrive with limited dirt experience, which is exactly what Training Camp is for.
We know how hard it is to get “dirt experience” if you don’t have a dirt bike, the gear, access to trails, etc. This is a place where you easily gain access to that!
- What makes WeRoam different from a motorcycle tour company?
WeRoam is an expedition club. That means we don’t run fixed itineraries, repeat the same routes, or accept riders without preparation and vetting.
Every WeRoam expedition is built by skilled riders who train together, plan together, and adapt as conditions change. The focus is on teamwork, self-sufficiency, and exploring unfamiliar places, not following a pre-set schedule.
If you’re looking for a guided vacation, WeRoam likely isn’t the right fit, but if you want a more hands-on, purpose-driven way to ride, apply now.
- What insurance do I need?
Each rider is responsible for arranging their own travel and medical insurance. Coverage requirements can vary depending on your provider or credit card, so we recommend confirming what’s included before you arrive.
Optional motorcycle insurance is available on-site at Training Camp to help cover accidents or incidental damage during training.
- What kind of bikes do you use? Do I need to bring my own?
You don’t need to bring or ship your own bike. We provide bikes at Training Camp, and bikes are always rented for international expeditions.
At Training Camp, riders train on Kawasaki KLX300, KLX 230’s and KLX 140’s motorcycles. These bikes are lightweight, durable, and well-suited for learning and refining off-road skills, even if you’re newer to dirt riding.
For expeditions, we work with trusted local partners to supply bikes that are appropriate for the terrain and conditions in each country, whether that involves sand, jungle, or high mountain passes.
- What’s the average age of the gals’ who do this?
Our community includes riders roughly between 28 and 65, but age isn’t a deciding factor! What matters more is mindset, readiness, and how you show up for your team. We’ve met plenty of “old” 30-year-olds and “young” 70-year-olds. If you have the determination and desire to join us, let’s go!
- I’m a shorty and am worried. Can I come?
Absolutely. Many of our riders are shorter. In fact one of our expedition leaders is 4’10!
Height isn’t the deciding factor, skill is. We teach you how to confidently start, stop, and control taller bikes using proven techniques, no matter your height. AND we have KLX 140’s for riders who are “vertically challenged”.
- What are the next steps to get involved?
Fill our the form to apply. If your application is mint, you’ll be invited to book a call with our assessment team. This call is our chance to learn more about you, but also give you a chance to ask all your burning questions!
Training Camp FAQ
- How much does Trainng Camp cost?
Training Camp is $6,500 CAD/$5000 USD and includes EVERYTHING (accommodation, bike use, coaching, transportation to and from camp, fuel, meals, etc) except flights and travel insurance. We do offer payment plans which we’ll go over during your assessment call.
- When is Training Camp?
Training Camp runs Monday to Friday each week from June through September. Riders must complete Training Camp during one of these weeks before being eligible to join an expedition.
- Can I get notified if an earlier camp spot opens up?
Yes, if a spot opens up in an earlier Training Camp session, we’ll notify everyone on the waitlist by email. You’ll be able to secure an earlier week if space becomes available.
- Why do I have to apply?
We do this to prevent the wrong people (those who don’t share in our mission and values) from showing up and impacting other peoples experience. Training Camp is also hosted on private property, so we’re picky about who can join.
- What does a typical day at Training Camp look like?
We wake up early, get moving, and have breakfast. Everyone is broken down into small groups and rotate between mechanics class, medical training, navigation, and, of course, riding. All meals are provided and every afternoon/evening ends with a trail ride through the beautiful BC mountains. There isn’t a lot of down time. Instead, it’s full learning immersion with hands on experiences on repeat so new skills actually stick.
- What kind of bikes will we be riding?
We have a fleet of Kawasaki KLX300, KLX 230’s, and KLX 140’s for our shorties. It’s a great trail/enduro bike for lessons and trails, and comfortable enough for longer ride days.
- Where is the camp located? How do I get there?
Training Camp takes place on WeRoam’s private 150-acre property outside Kelowna, British Columbia. The site is purpose-built for expedition training with trails, practice areas, and natural terrain that closely reflect the conditions you’ll encounter on an expedition.
You fly to Kelowna, BC Canada airport (airport code YLW). We take care of all transportation to and from our private facility, which is about an hour away.
- How many riders are in each camp?
Training Camp is 16 women per week but we break down into small groups for learning.Keeping groups small allows for individual coaching, personalized feedback, and enough space to ride without unnecessary pressure.
- What experience level do I need to join?
You’ll need basic riding experience before applying. WeRoam isn’t a beginner riding school, but we welcome riders across a wide range of experience levels beyond that starting point.
During Training Camp, we assess each rider and assign a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 qualification. This helps determine which expeditions you’re ready for and ensures teams are well-matched.
- How can I prepare for Training Camp?
A bit of preparation goes a long way. Training Camp is physically and mentally demanding, and arriving ready helps you get the most out of the experience.
- Physically: Focus on building overall strength and endurance, especially in your legs, core, and upper body. Consistency is key. If you’re managing old injuries or mobility issues, now’s the time to address them so you can ride comfortably and confidently.
- Mentally: Adaptability is everything. Training Camp will push you outside your comfort zone and that’s part of the fun. The best riders are the ones who can go with the flow, stay positive when challenges inevitably come up, and offer kindness to others and themselves.
- On the bike: Get as much seat time as you can. The more time you spend riding before camp, the more confident you’ll feel. If you have access to dirt or trails, spend time there. If not, any riding helps. Just get out and ride.
- Do you offer rental gear?
Not at this time. Our women’s moto training camp doesn’t currently include rental gear, so riders should plan to bring their own equipment. We’re actively exploring gear partnerships, and if rental options become available in the future, all registered riders will be notified with details and recommendations.
- What gear do I need to bring?
You’ll be riding off-road, but most street riding gear works just fine. The priority is comfort and protection, so choose gear that helps you feel safe and confident on the bike.
Helmets must be DOT-approved, and we recommend avoiding footwear with laces because they can get caught on the bike.
For more details, you can review our recommended packing list. The suggestions are there to help, but the most important thing is wearing gear that fits well and suits your riding style.
- Can you accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions?
We do our best to accommodate dietary needs by removing specific ingredients when possible. However, we aren’t able to prepare fully customized meals. Our kitchen is not nut-free or gluten-free, so riders with severe allergies should plan to bring their own food.
We’re also not able to accommodate sensitivities to scents or perfumes.
Training Camp is designed to reflect the realities of expedition travel. In many remote regions, dietary accommodations may be limited or unavailable. Part of the preparation is learning how to adapt and stay fueled with what’s available along the way.
- What are the accomodations like?
Cozy, riverside cabins on the property with the most comfortable mattresses you have ever slept on!
- Do I have to go on an expedition if I attend Training Camp?
No. Training Camp is not a commitment to travel with us.
Training Camp is the first step for women who want to join a future expedition, but it’s also designed as a standalone experience for women who simply want to build real-world moto skills alongside other like-minded women. Nothing is required beyond the camp itself.
However, Training Camp is a mandatory first step before joining an expedition.
Expedition FAQ
- Does everyone have to attend Training Camp?
Yes, every rider who joins a WeRoam Expedition must complete our women’s motorcycle training camp in Kelowna, BC. Training Camp ensures expedition teams are well-matched, prepared, and aligned in both skill and mindset.
While riding experience matters, attitude, adaptability, and teamwork are equally important. Even highly experienced riders benefit from going through the process before joining an expedition team.
- I’m already an experienced rider, do I still need to attend Training Camp?
Yes, Training Camp goes beyond riding ability, and it’s where we establish team dynamics, communication standards, and shared expectations that every expedition depends on. Even experienced riders leave camp more prepared for international travel and ready for the demands of expedition riding.
- When can I sign up for an expedition?
Once you pass Training Camp, at any level, you officially become a WeRoam Club Member. Membership is your key to the next step: Access to Expeditions. Only members get to join expedition teams so that we can ensure our adventures are filled with skilled, like-minded women.
As a member, you can sign up for a team that matches your level (or one below), so you’re always riding within your comfort zone while continuing to grow. Expedition teams open once a year, and spots fill in under an hour. These are exclusive opportunities for our community of women adventurers.
- How are riders evaluated and placed into expedition levels?
At our women’s moto training camp, riders are evaluated across three key areas: moto skills, physical ability, and team-ability. Together, these assessments determine which expedition level you qualify for: Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3.
- Moto skills: Your riding level is based on technical ability on the bike. Instructors assess balance, control, braking, and how you handle different types of terrain.
- Physical ability: Fitness plays a role in how demanding an expedition can be. Greater strength and endurance support longer ride days and more challenging conditions.
- Team-ability: This is the most important factor. Team-ability is evaluated through peer feedback and focuses on adaptability, communication, and how you show up for others on and off the trail. Riders who don’t meet the standard in this area won’t qualify for an expedition, regardless of riding skill or fitness.
The evaluation process is designed to place riders at the expedition level where they’re best equipped to succeed within a team.
- Moto skills: Your riding level is based on technical ability on the bike. Instructors assess balance, control, braking, and how you handle different types of terrain.
- Can I join a team below my level?
Yes, if you qualify at a higher level during Training Camp, you’re welcome to join a lower level. The only restriction is that riders can’t join expeditions above the level they’ve earned.
- How many women are on each team?
Expedition teams are kept small and personal, and are made up of riders who are closely matched in skill level and riding style. Smaller team sizes help build trust, support strong teamwork, and make it easier to navigate remote conditions together.
- How do you choose destinations?
Destinations are selected based on safety, local partnerships, and the opportunity for meaningful exploration. Every expedition offers something new, from crossing deserts in Namibia to tackling volcanic terrain in Indonesia. We rarely return to the same place twice, so every WeRoam expedition is a one-of-a-kind experience.
